My colleagues and I have noticed that there are many studies and discussions on the prevalence of students experiencing depression symptoms and how we can combat that. But there aren't as many studies discussing why students experience depression to better understand what can be done to prevent full on depression. As well as what resources your school has to help you. In this article we discuss some of the biggest reasons why students feel depressed and what can be done to help.
Why Do College Students Feel like Failures?
One reason why college students are depressed is because of the thoughts of failing themselves or individuals important around them.
4. THEY FEEL LIKE FAILURES
Failure in small doses is good for students to learn and adapt in life. Without some failure there is no room to grow but failing academically can stunt that growth and create a sense of dread. Here are a few reasons why college students struggle with academic failure. Fear itself is a big reason, stress from academics, financial stress, pressure to get a good job after graduating, and failed relationships are just a handful of reasons.

Feeling like a failure goes hand in hand with students depression. Research suggests that depression in students has a connection with lower grade averages. This can lead to feeling more like a failure. Depression is one of the main mental health reasons affecting college students after stress. To combat with feeling depressed or low on energy during semesters, students should try to do more exercises even if it's just 30 mins a day. Exercise has been proven to release endorphins, which is your feel good neurotransmitter, helping with depression, stress and anxiety.
